On June 16, students of the school took part in a Chinese culture quiz. The Chinese Ambassador to Fiji, HE Zhang Jun Sai was delighted to note that students has a through knowledge of Chinese culture, history and tradition.

Term 1 Holiday from April 26 to May 13

During the Term 1 holidays:
The Head Boy represented the Suva City General Communal for the inaugural National Youth Parliament.
The Head Girl left with Ministry of Education officials for New York to attend a United Nations Special Session on Children.
07 May 2002 - About 50 students took part in the Australian Schools Science Competition.

08 May 2002 - The IQ Active Quiz organised by Fiji TV (the first-ever television quiz in the country) was held at the Civic Centre. Yat Sen took part together with 15 other schools from around the country. The Quiz team consists of Mao, Vinal, Torika, Akisi and Maria (audience) all of Form 7 and led by librarian Mrs Keni. Yat Sen managed to outdo Natabua High School in the pool match, 23 points to 22. Unfortunately, due to a minute irregularity in a question, a re-match was held on the 9th of May and the situation switched around. Photo.

Sports-wise, a team from Yat Sen competed in the Outrigger Canoe Race along the Suva Sea Front.

Yat Sen took part in the Fiji Broadcasting Corporation Limited National Quiz. The quiz was held in St. Joseph Secondary School in early March. Yat Sen narrowly lost to Suva Grammar School 21-20. The 2001 examination results were released early this year. A summary of the results is as follows:

- Fiji Junior Certificate Examination, 100% pass rate, highest: Ripeka Kaurasi (582 / 600)
- Fiji School Leaving Certificate Examination, 86% pass rate, highest: Loo Yu Mao (358 / 400)
- Fiji Seventh Form Examination, 76% pass rate, highest: Yuen Kwok Fay (350 / 400)
