SCIENCE DEPARTMENT

We were fortunate to have started off on good footing this year compared to that of 2001. There was no disruptions the whole year as for the staffing is concerned.

The department is made up of the three hard-working teachers: Mrs. Teilai (AP), Mrs. Sashi Kumar and Mr. Paul Young.

The external results for the year 2001 are as follows:

Fiji Form Seven Examination
- Chemistry 100% (11/11)
- Biology 90% (9/10)

Fiji School Leaving Certificate
- Chemistry 85% (23/27)
- Biology 100% (25/25)

Fiji Junior Certificate
- Basic Science 99.8% (81/82)

In May, 66 students participated in the Australian Science Competition. The results were as follows:
Distinctions: 9
Credit Achievements: 20
Certificates of Participation: 37
Sugata Narsey received the gold medal.

Yu Mao Loo was 2nd overall in the South Pacific and lst in the Central Division in Chemistry Quiz organized by Science Department of U.S.P. Congratulations to Sugata and Yu Mao.

Last and not the least may I take this opportunity of thanking the Principal Mrs. Bessie Ali for her continued support and confidence in the staff and students. To all he students appearing for the external examinations, our best wishes and May the good Lord continue to grant the desires of you heart.
