Head Prefects' Reports

Prefects

Leaders are not born but cultivated; in retrospect I believe my life at Yat Sen for the past decade or so has made me who I am today. Firstly, I must thank the Principal, Mrs. Ali, Vice Principal, Mrs. Tevita and the staff for having the confidence in me and for providing support and encouragement. As a normal student, I learn and seek guidance from the senior students, my parents, the principal, vice principal and teachers. This year is truly a time to reciprocate.

Frankly speaking, I did not imagine myself becoming a Head Boy in the preceding years. I feel it is the confidence and support given by my teachers and peers that allowed me to carry out duties with much ease. I must acknowledge the hard work and dedication of all the prefects, who are supportive and courteous, without whom I would not be able to undertake my responsibilities. Special mention is given to Vakaoca Kedrayate, the Head Girl for Terms 1 and 2, who is always in high spirits and cheered me up in difficult times. Vakaoca has left Yat Sen to attend college in Canada.

The 2002 academic year has been an incident-free one. I must thank the students for their understanding and co-operation. Weekly meeting with the vice-principal followed by prefect time on Fridays with students established a channel of communication between the school and students. The roles of prefects complement the functions of the Student Council in looking after the needs and welfare of students. Once again, a smooth 2002 would not be possible without team work.

To help strengthen our leadership qualities and increase our understanding on youth issues, many prefects participated in various seminars including the Prefect Leadership Seminar, National Youth Parliament and Reproductive Health Workshops. The organisers of these seminars ought to be praised for providing an opportunity to prefects to interact and learn from an out-of-school environment.

Whether it is for the Talent Quest, , Sports or other events, I can confidently say that the prefects can be counted upon to work dedicatedly and maturely; and more importantly, to lead by example.

I congratulate Carly Smith, the new Head Girl, and wish the provisional prefects the best of luck. I hope future post holders will continue to work together in upholding the high standards of the school. To all the students, I trust that you will regard your education with the highest priority.

On a personal note, I would like to thank all my wonderful friends who gave me encouragement, support, warmth and not forgetting to mention, the constructive criticisms. I will miss all of you.

The years I spent in Yat Sen is a great learning experience.

Provisional Prefects

Accepting the role of Head Girl in term 3 was not an easy task due to the high standards imposed on the position by the Head Girl for terms 1 and 2, Vakaoca Kedrayate and her predecessors.

Firstly, I would like to convey my heart felt thanks and appreciation to Mrs. All and Mrs. Tevita for their never- ending support and guidance through out the year. To all teachers who were also approached and gave willingly their time and advice, my gratitude extends to you also.

This year was indeed a challenging but gratifying year. No school of course is complete without the students themselves, and our role as prefects was challenged in having to deal with the different - both amusing and at times detention” needing - situations. However, matters of concern could be resolved through weekly meetings conducted by our Vice- Principal, Mrs. Tevita. To all students thank y very much for making our year as prefects and enjoyable and memorable one with no major  ‘hiccups'.

Last, but not least, I’d to commend Yu Mao Loo, the Head Boy for his wonderful leadership qualities and Lokhum my partner as Deputy Head Boy for term 1 and 2 for his encouragement and “alertness" to happenings in school, My sincere thanks extends to all 11 prefects for their willingness to do their best whenever called upon and for carrying out their responsibilities honestly and faithfully throughout this year. You have truly been an awesome team to work with and I truly believe that we have carried out our tasks to the expectations of the staff and students.

Finally, I’d like to give our honour and praise back to the Lord Almighty who enabled us to be united as a team and without his guidance and wisdom we would not have been able to accomplish our role as prefects.
