Strength in Diversity

Our school community reflects diversity.  It illustrates how a group of students and their teachers draw upon diversity to achieve common goals.  Our abilities, talents, beliefs and habits are various, yet we share a vision to learn together so that we are happy, well-adjusted, successful human beings.  That same vision equips us with values, skills and, a work ethic for life in a multi-cultural nation.  Diversity is our strength.

Our shared characteristics enrich our school environment.  Our students are respectful, courteous and accommodating, hardworking and methodical, imaginative and creative, analytical and precise, skilled in sports, blessed with leadership skills, and always willing to give of their energy and time to work for the good of others.

Our diverse abilities and qualities focused on common objectives have enabled us to achieve noteworthy academic success while contributing to other spheres of life.

We are a relatively new school. Having begun in 1986 yet our former students have already begun to make an impact on Fiji's society. Many are gaining distinction in their tertiary studies.  Those in the professions, including medicine, finance, law, information technology and engineering as well as other fields, are quickly establishing a reputation with their diligence and determination.

Our latest achievement is our school hall.  It is the outcome of a dedicated and far-sighted management under the dynamic leadership of the Chairman, Mr. Gregory Yee, willingly cooperating with teachers, students, parents, and the wider community to attain a desired goal.  It is a symbol of what can be achieved when groups of different cultures unite for the common good.

The hall and the two Yat-Sen schools are also a tribute to the vision and energy of the pioneers of the Chinese community and their descendants in Fiji.  They are their legacy to present and future generations of Fiji's multi-cultural society, expressing their contribution to Fiji while emphasizing their gratitude to the tolerance and generosity of the indigenous culture which continues to accommodate their presence here.

In concluding, I wish our students success in the external examinations. To all students leaving Yat-Sen this year, may I wish you success and happiness for the future.  To all those who will be returning next year may I wish you a successful 2003.

I would like to record my sincere gratitude to all the teachers, office staff, students, parents and the management who over the years have given me their unstinting support and loyalty and made my stay at the school enjoyable and satisfying.

Happy Christmas and New Year. God Bless.

(Mrs.) Bessie Ali.
