Science Department Report 2001

The Science Department started on shaky grounds due to the departure of the HOD Mrs.Luisa Taito for Washington to join her husband.  We were fortunate to have Mrs. Sashi Kumar who earlier came for practical teaching in early 1999 and tied the knot with Mr. Binesh Kumar the T/D teacher.

 Unfortunately, we were deprived of her of her services when she suddenly left on maternity leave in Week 4 of Term 1.  We were saved by the arrival of Miss Dutt. Mrs. Kumar returned in Week 2 of term 2.

 The department is made up of three very hardworking teachers who work as a team.  They are Mrs. Iva Telai, Mrs.Sashi Kumar and Mr. Paul Young.

 The numbers of students taking Science are:

The external results for the year 2000 are as follows:

 Fiji Form Seven Examinations                   -     Chemistry                         63.6% (7/11)

                                                                 -     Biology                             90.9% (10/11)

 Fiji School Leaving Certificate                  -     Chemistry                         56%

                                                                 -     Biology                             75%

 Fiji Junior Certificate                                 -     Basic Science                   97.6%

 Despite the events of the year 2000, the students did well.

 In May 48 students entered the Australian Science Competition. The results are as follows:

 Jack Fong of form 7 and Loo Yu Mao of form 6 participated in the Titration competition at U.S.P in June.

 I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Principal for her unique gift of inspiring confidence in her staff and students.  To all the students appearing for external examinations, our well wishes and may the Good Lord continue to grant the desires of your hearts.
