Athletics - Sports Day

Well, who would have thought that Yat Sen was going to have a sports day... It was a sweltering Wednesday and the heat was on. Of course everyone knew that Blue House was going to win (hehehe). Nah just kidding! It was a big fluke! I don't know what was more impressive, the potholes on the track or the uneven lines. Still, kudos must be given to Ms. Cobona who painstakingly put everything together with the help of some officials (very qualified...no really!).

The athletes must also be thanked for their tremendous performance, some of them unfortunately giving up the ghost half way and literally falling flat on their faces...thanks guys for showing us how to 'eat dirt'! Food was sold by the student council at an exorbitant price, I'm pretty sure the proceeds went to a good cause...hmmm...

Overall it was a day enjoyed by all, including our illustrious leaders, Mrs. Ali and Mrs. Tevita who sat outside their offices, perched like eagles on a stoop (thought no one noticed eh?). The presence of Mr. Gregory Yee, Chairman of the Board also graced our fair school, also one of those among those perched on the first floor.

The track events were exciting and even spectators seemed to join in. An example of this was when a certain young lad from Form 4 in Green House took it upon himself to chase after the girls on the track during the 400m intermediate event. What an accomplishment! He managed to maintain the speed of the fastest lady while trying to persuade her to take the flag that he was waving around. Good on ya mate! Russ, you got guts (show off!).

To conclude, we can all say that Blue House has once again been triumphant over the other houses. Oh well, better luck next time!

We would like to thank the school and the principal, Mrs. Ali for sponsoring our entry fees. Our representatives will continue to work hard and train hard to enrich the school in sports. Lastly, we would like to thank the support and cooperation of the members, students and the staff.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Volleyball Report

This year’s volleyball team consisted of form 5 & 6 students. Although most of them have never played in a tournament before we managed to do satisfactorily well.

Training was held every Wednesday and Saturday with our coach William Tabuya. Since basketball training was held at the same time and most of the players were b/ball players, they had to choose between the two sports and were not very focused. There were about 18 students, boys and girls who took part in the tournament.

The tournament was held on the first week of the first term holidays with all…. well most of the players eager to go. There were about 9 schools altogether that took part in the tournament. The competition was tough with the girls playing in the same pool as ACS and Grammar and the boys, same pool as Gospel and Nabua.

Even in these hard pools both teams managed to make it to the semi finals but sadly lost. The girls were taken out by Grammar and the boys were taken out by Lomary.

The volleyball champions that day were Marist Brothers High School for the boys, winning it again for three years in a row. And Suva Grammar took it out for the girls.

Although none of our teams got through to the finals we still tried our very best. I would like to thank Mrs. Ali and Ms. Cobona for their continuos support and hard work. Lastly but not least the players themselves for their hard work and commitment. Better luck next year!!
