Election of Office Bearers was the first item on the agenda. The activities of the association kicked off under the following administration:
President: Yu Mao Loo Form 7 Vice President: Yin Fei Chung Form 5 Treasurer: Kevin Yuen Form 6 Secretary: Lenny Lee Form 6 Assistant: Ting Yu Huang Form 3 Speed Tests, Team Competitions and Problems of the Week were organised as usual. However, a points system (Maths Quest) has been introduced this year. YSMA members will accumulate points from various Maths competitions, such as Speed Test and the Australian Mathematics Competition, and also the normal classroom tests and exams. Contestants will be vying for the Best Male and Best Female Mathematician of the Year Award.
Male Mathematician: Yin-Fei Chung Female Mathematician: Wei-Ling Wang There was a great sense of enthusiasm shown for Mathematics by the juniors especially the Form 3 students who joined us this year. More activities are currently being planned such as student-to-student tutorials and Maths Quiz. The performance in the Team Mathematics Competition in the Southern Zone as well as the National Finals was excellent and the results were relatively better than previous years.
The association organised a small lunch to celebrate the success of our teams, to welcome Mr. P. P. Lal back to the school and to farewell Ting Yu’s departure for Auckland.
Although the YSMA comprises of student organised activities, they would not be possible without the help and support of the Principal and the Maths Teachers. Last but not the least, the work of Form Reps should also be acknowledged.
I hope that future administrations will take the Association to new heights.
