A point system was agreed to last year.
The system will be implemented this year through a competition called the
Maths Quest 2002. The points will be based on the marks from Term 1 and 2
Maths exams, tests (which account for 60% of the total), YSMA speed tests,
POWs, AMC and FMC (adds to the remaining 40%).
It is hoped that this will give all
students an impetus to study and appreciate Mathematics.
Towards the end of term 1, YSMA has
organised InterForm Team Competitions, a Speed Test, two POWs and some
tutorials.
Term II started with the focus on the
preparation of Maths Teams to the Suva Zone Maths Quiz to be held on June
28. As the years progress, this quiz becomes increasingly tough, it is
thus very important for students do a lot of problem solving to gain the
confidence and to become competitive. This year, the Fiji Maths
Association has included class 6 in their events, so there will be 8 Maths
teams altogether from Class 6 to Form 7.
