PTFA Chairman's Report

The aims and objectives of a school's Parents and Teachers Association are often misunderstood. Questions are often asked about its role in fundraising and in light of the Ministry of Educations constant declaration of "Free Education", these questions are quite legitimate.

Assistance from the Ministry of Education comes to the school in several ways:
grants for building and equipment, teachers' salaries etc, and as monetary
subsidy based on the number of students enrolled in the school. But this Government
"grant per student" is not sufficient to pay for the functioning of any
school. This grant has to be supplemented by school fees. The fees charged and
the subsidiary received from Government hardly covers the running cost of the
school.

It is therefore left to the PTA to organise fundraising to pay for any extras that the school may require from time to time.

From the balance saved from last year's fundraising and the money from this year's
walk-a-thon, your PTA has decided to spend $50,000 towards the concreting of the drive from Tanoa Street to the Hall. The dust from this road has become a major nuisance to the Secondary School. This project is being undertaken in partnership with the Chinese Education Society as part of the celebrations in 2006 of the 70th Anniversary of the establishment of the primary school and the 20th Anniversary of the secondary school.

Yat Sen Schools have been blessed with generous and helpful parents and supporters. All money raised by the PTA is accounted for in the PTA books and
audited accounts are presented at the PTA Annual General Meeting at the beginning of each year.

Come to our AGM ask your questions and get your answers!! If your child is remaining at Vat Sen in 2006, we look forward to welcoming you back as a parent. If your child is leaving us, we look forward to welcoming you as a friend.
The PTA Committee thanks you for your continuous support.
